North Rhine-Westphalia: Patrick Helmes becomes a coach in Siegen

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The former Bundesliga professional Patrick Helmes will coach the Sportfreunde Siegen. As the Oberliga football club announced via Instagram, the 38-year-old will succeed Lirian Gerguri, who resigned shortly before Christmas, with immediate effect. For Helmes it is a return to the old workplace. The former goalscorer, who played a total of 177 first and second division games during his time with 1. FC Köln, Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg, was active for the sport from 1992 to 1997 and from 2000 to 2005. The football teacher has gained experience as a coach with the second team of 1. FC Köln, Rot-Weiss Erfurt, with the youth of Bayer Leverkusen, with Admira Wacker Mödling and Alemannia Aachen.
