Thuringia: bird inventory: Thuringian called again to count

Jena (dpa/th) - Balcony, garden, bird feeder or park: A bird inventory is also pending in Thuringia. During the "Hour of the Winter Birds" campaign, counting birds is again the order of the day from Epiphany (January 6) to Sunday (January 8), as the environmental association Nabu announced on Wednesday. Interested parties are asked to spend an hour at a quiet observation point noting the bird species that appear there and reporting them to the nature conservation association. According to Nabu, the hour of the winter birds is Germany's largest scientific participatory campaign to record bird populations. There will be a separate bird count for school children from January 9th to 13th, so that they can get to know local bird species.

In Thuringia, 5,200 people took part in the 2022 winter bird count, looking out for the feathered singers in 3,110 gardens. 119,000 birds were recorded. House sparrows were seen most frequently, followed by great tits and blue tits.
