Saxony: money requirement: process against FDJ demonstrators stopped

Zwickau (dpa/sn) - Almost three years after a demonstration by the communist Free German Youth (FDJ) in Zwickau, four participants had to answer in court for trespassing and aiding and abetting. The reason was that two of them climbed onto the balcony of the Zwickau town hall using a ladder in March 2020, and the other two helped them.

However, the district court has now discontinued the proceedings with the consent of the public prosecutor's office against payment of monetary conditions of between 50 and 70 euros per person. "The presiding judge justified the decision with the passage of time, the minor effects of the crime and the low level of wrongfulness of the charge," said a court spokeswoman on Wednesday.

With around 2.3 million members, the FDJ was the largest socialist youth organization in GDR times. It was banned in West Germany in the 1950s, but is legitimate in the East under the terms of the Unification Treaty. Politically, it no longer plays a role today.
