Bavaria: Oberstdorf will no longer be a Tour de Ski stage location from 2024

Oberstdorf (dpa / lby) - From next season, Oberstdorf will no longer be a stage in the Tour de Ski. That said the sports director of the German cross-country skiers, Andreas Schlütter, on Wednesday in the ARD. The reasons for this are the Ski Jumping World Cups for women and men planned for the turn of the year in the Allgäu market town and the prevailing weather at this time, which makes it extremely difficult to prepare the slopes in the Nordic Arena. It is still unclear which German location will host the tour in the future.

In the 17-year history of the stage race, apart from Oberstdorf, Oberhof was the only venue on German soil. In addition, the first stage, a sprint, was run on New Year's Eve 2006 in Munich's Olympic Stadium.

Schlütter emphasized that the German Ski Association (DSV) also wants to organize world cups in Oberstdorf in the future. The infrastructure would be ideal for top-class cross-country skiing. Schlütter envisions a three-day event with races in various formats.
