North Rhine-Westphalia: Significantly more young peregrine falcons in NRW

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The nature conservation association (Nabu) counted significantly more peregrine falcon cubs in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2022 than in the previous year. More than 500 young falcons flew out last year, said Nabu NRW on Sunday. In 2021 there were about 420 young animals. The number of territory pairs remained constant at 265.

The breeding success is also due to climate change. It was said that warm and dry weather conditions would help the animals to achieve high breeding success.

When the peregrine falcons breed in spring, they are ringed, as the spokesman for the Nabu-AG Peregrine Falcon Protection (AGW), Michael Kladny, explained. In this way, the stock can be determined relatively precisely. The animals that nest too high and cannot be ringed are observed and counted from the ground.
