North Rhine-Westphalia: State parliament discusses the situation of nursing homes

The rising costs are also noticeable in nursing homes. At the request of the SPD, the state parliament is dealing with the situation of these institutions. In addition, a partnership between North Rhine-Westphalia and a region in the Ukraine is to be initiated.

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia is dealing with the situation of nursing homes this Friday (10 a.m.). In its application for a current hour of parliament, the SPD speaks of an emergency in these homes. She asks the state government how it intends to prevent such institutions from going bankrupt. Nursing homes are severely affected by rising energy costs and their savings options are limited.

According to the German Foundation for Patient Protection, more and more people in need of care are slipping into social assistance due to the sharp rise in costs. "We assume that care costs will have risen by at least 15 percent by the end of the year," board member Eugen Brysch told dpa a few days ago. Energy costs, inflation and higher wages were particularly noticeable.

Brysch fears that care providers will also increasingly find themselves in severe distress. "We hear from both outpatient and inpatient care facilities that they see bankruptcy coming because they can no longer bear the costs."

A partnership between North Rhine-Westphalia and a region in the Ukraine is also to be initiated in Parliament. The black-green coalition and the SPD and FDP opposition agree on this. The four groups have submitted a joint motion for this, which is on the agenda. The state government should therefore hold talks with Ukraine. It is still unclear which region is suitable there.
