North Rhine-Westphalia: straw bale fire at riding stables: six hours of use

Essen (dpa / lnw) - A fire from straw bales stacked on top of each other behind a riding stable in Essen kept the fire brigade busy for six hours on Tuesday night. The fire broke out just after midnight and quickly spread over an area of about 200 square meters, the fire department said. According to initial findings, no one was injured, and animals were not harmed either.

When the first fire engines arrived, the fire was already threatening to spread to the adjacent trees. In order to be able to specifically extinguish the fire on the site behind a riding stable in the Bedinggrade district, an excavator from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) was also requested. After six hours, the fire was extinguished in the morning hours. The cause of the fire is still unclear and should now be determined by the criminal police, it said.
