North Rhine-Westphalia: Waldorf school wants to defend itself against the withdrawal of approval

Rheine (dpa / lnw) - The Waldorf school in Rheine (Steinfurt district), which is about to close due to "serious defects", wants to defend itself against the withdrawal of the school permit. It was surprisingly learned on Tuesday that the district government had ordered the cancellation of the permit by September 30th, the school management said. The sponsoring association of the school wants to take legal action against it.

The Münster district government had announced on Tuesday that the school had had its school license withdrawn due to "serious deficiencies in the teaching process" and that the cancellation of the license had to be carried out immediately. Corona protection measures had been massively and repeatedly violated. The school authorities did not prevent the misconduct of individual teachers. In addition, there is "an insufficient number of teachers, deficits in school organization and a massive disruption in school peace." The carrier had therefore not been able to remedy the long-known deficiencies.

The school management announced that they could not understand the reasoning of the district government. One does not see any reliable reasons that justify a cancellation of the permit. Therefore, the sponsoring association will appeal to have a neutral body check whether the cancellation of the permit should be properly justified. How exactly the association wants to proceed legally remained open at first. It will be held in consultation with the legal advisor, it said.

According to a spokesman for the district government, there is in principle the possibility of filing a complaint with an administrative court within one month of receiving a decision. Immediate enforcement can also be contested. The Waldorf school, founded in 2017, currently teaches 71 children in primary school and fifth grade.
