North Rhine-Westphalia: wife killed: manslaughter or euthanasia?

A man goes to the police and reports that he killed his wife. What he continues to tell is the story of a mysterious bloody deed.

Hagen (dpa / lnw) - A mysterious bloody deed has been occupying the Hagen jury since Wednesday. A 52-year-old German from Hagen admitted killing his wife with three well-aimed stab wounds in the heart in May. While prosecutors have charged the man with manslaughter, he claims the killing was a last act of love for his suicidal wife.

According to the accused, the 51-year-old was increasingly marked by years of alcohol abuse in the months before the crime. "She hardly got out of bed because everything was physically difficult for her," the Hagen told the judges. His wife finally made him promise to help her commit suicide. And he, who "always treated his wife like a queen", agreed. That's why he got the knife on the day of the crime and stabbed her with her consent.

The accused appeared to the Hagen police about a week after the bloody act, very drunk, and immediately handed over the keys to the officers. "I killed my wife, she's lying in the bedroom," he is said to have said.

The law provides for a maximum of 5 years in prison for homicide and between 5 and 15 years for manslaughter. The process is expected to last until November.
