Comedian Chris Rock first made headlines when he bluntly commented on Will Smith's infamous Oscar slap in his comedy special Selective Outrage. "It still hurts!" Rock said, among other things, on Saturday night live in Baltimore on the stage of his Netflix special.
The US magazine "People" now reports that superstar Smith has long wished for a reconciliation with Rock. "He has unsuccessfully tried to make amends with Chris in the best way possible," an unnamed insider told the US magazine.
According to the insider, Smith "felt awful for so long" over last year's Oscar scandal, and while trying to reconcile with rock, he's also introspected and "grown." "He's doing better, but he's still remorseful," the People source said.
Comedian Rock, on the other hand, seems to have wrapped up the infamous incident on stage at last year's Academy Awards with its comedy special on Netflix. "Chris is ready to move on from this," another insider told ET Online. Rock has been focused on performing for the past year and that hard work has paid off. The special was "funny, self-deprecating and thought-provoking". Now the comedian can "relax" because he "said everything he wanted to say".
