Dresden (dpa/sn) - In the 2022/2023 winter semester, more young women and men from abroad are starting their studies at Saxony's largest university than in the previous year. So far, 1236 foreign students have been enrolled, the year before there were 1189 at the end, as the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) announced on Thursday at the beginning of the semester next Monday. The more than 6,000 first-year students enrolled so far came from 92 nations.
According to the information, 5,969 "international students" are currently studying at TUD across all years, which corresponds to a share of 18.9 percent. By far the most of them come from India and China, followed by Italy and Ukraine. Since enrollment is still possible until the end of October, it is expected that the number of these freshmen will continue to increase.
Despite the energy crisis and the corona pandemic, the TU is planning to attend the semester in attendance, as Vice Rector Education Michael Kobel said. A transfer of teaching to digital is currently not planned. According to the TU, more energy is saved when students attend courses together on campus. The total energy consumption would be higher if they followed lectures, seminars and exercises on the screen at home.
