Saxony-Anhalt: 30th International Elbe-Saale-Camp in Barby begins

Barby (dpa/sa) - River protectors come together for the 30th time on the Elbe meadows near Barby in the Salzland district for the International Elbe-Saale Camp. After the opening on Sunday, they want to promote the protection of the rivers Elbe and Saale with campaigns and events until July 30th. According to the organizers, the priority is to preserve the original river landscape. The participants want to explore these during the Elbe-Saale Action Alliance camp by boat, bike and on foot. The motto is "Outlook Elbe".

Only a living floodplain landscape can serve as a buffer in the event of flooding, for example, and must be preserved at all costs. The activists are therefore calling for the "targets for the Elbe to be adjusted to reality." The Elbe must reach the floodplain again in order to be able to supply it with water.

At the opening of the 30th Elbe-Saale-Camp, a guided tour with the environmentalist and author Ernst Paul Dörfler is all about the osprey. Films, excursions, discussions and music events are on the program until the end of next week. The highlight will be a party on July 29th to mark the 30th anniversary of the camp. Visitors are welcome every day, it said.
