Saxony-Anhalt: 80 million euros more for the municipalities in 2023

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's municipalities will receive an additional 80 million euros for investments this year. The money is to be used, among other things, for the rehabilitation of roads, as the CDU parliamentary group announced on Friday. On Thursday, the finance committee finally discussed the 2023 budget in the adjustment meeting. The state parliament wants to decide on the budget at the end of March.

"Our municipal family now has additional funds of 80 million euros at our disposal. We fought for the urgently needed money in order to get investment maintenance measures off the ground," said CDU parliamentary group leader Guido Heuer.

According to the financial policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Stefan Ruland, 141 amendments to the budget were tabled on Thursday. He also pointed out that 750 million euros in debt would be repaid.

The coalition partners were also satisfied. The FDP emphasized that an additional nine million euros will be made available for digitization at universities. "There is a need," said MP Jörg Bernstein. In addition, around 20 million euros would be put into the pension fund.

The SPD was happy about the provision of additional money for hospitals, for species promotion, sports clubs and municipalities. "The country is not ducking away from the municipalities now," said SPD finance expert Andreas Schmidt.
