Saxony-Anhalt: Delivery bottleneck: This year only 1500 Halberstadt Cathedral Stollen

Halberstadt (dpa/sa) - Christmas stollen have been ripening again in Halberstadt Cathedral since Wednesday - albeit significantly less than last year. A total of 1,500 stollen from the Halberstadt bakeries were stored in the basement of the cathedral, as the Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Foundation announced on Wednesday. In the humid climate, they should now rest for weeks before they can be cut in the Advent season.

In the past year, significantly more tunnels were stored with a total of 2,500 pieces. According to the Halberstadt bakeries, this is due to supply bottlenecks for the urgently needed Australian sultanas, which are said to have only arrived last week.

From the first Advent, the stollen will be available for sale in the Halberstadt bakeries. From every stollen sold, one euro is to be used for the restoration of a tomb that belonged to the former Archbishop of Magdeburg, Friedrich III. is dedicated.
