Halle (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, the number of people in employment has fallen. However, the development varies from region to region. In 2021, a total of around 993,100 people were employed, 0.1 percent fewer than in 2020, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday. While Magdeburg (0.6 percent) and Halle (0.1 percent) recorded an increase, the number in Dessau-Roßlau fell by 0.3 percent.

In terms of area, the rural districts of Börde (1.2 percent) and the Burgenland district (1.1 percent) showed the highest growth in employment. The Salzlandkreis district (-1.3 percent) and the districts of Harz, Wittenberg and Mansfeld-Südharz (-1.2 percent each) recorded the largest proportionate losses. In 2021, an average of 72.4 percent of those employed in Saxony-Anhalt were employed in service sectors.
