Wiesbaden/Halle (dpa/sa) - The number of school starters has increased this year in Saxony-Anhalt. 19,600 children started the 2022/2023 school year, 3.3 percent more than in the previous year, the Federal Statistical Office announced on Friday, citing preliminary results.
Nationwide, the number rose to its highest level in 17 years. According to statistics authorities, 810,700 children started the new school year, 5.2 percent more than in the previous year. The strong increase can be attributed to demographic developments such as higher birth rates and increased immigration. Most recently, more children were enrolled in school in Germany in the 2005/2006 school year.
