Saxony-Anhalt: New observation tower for the Brietz ponds

Salzwedel (dpa/sa) - Visitors will soon be able to use a new observation tower at the Brietzer Teiche wetland biotope complex in the Altmark. The two-story wooden structure should be available at the end of September, the Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz (BUND) Saxony-Anhalt announced on Monday in Salzwedel. According to the information, up to 15 people should be able to look at the area consisting of four large lakes and several shallow waters at the same time from a height of five meters. The Brietz ponds near Salzwedel are home to many rare birds such as marsh harriers and snipes. Rare dragonflies can also be observed, it was said.

The tower is fully funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). An exact amount was not given.
