Halle (dpa/sa) - People in Saxony-Anhalt have to dig deeper and deeper into their pockets for basic food. These are currently significantly more expensive than in June 2021, the State Statistical Office informed Halle on Friday. The prices for meat have risen particularly sharply: According to the information, meat and meat products are on average 22.7 percent more expensive than about a year ago. For vegetables and fruit, the statisticians determined a development of plus 8.9 and 3.5 percent. The price level for fish rose by 7.5 percent compared to the previous year.
Mineral water (up 5.1 percent), coffee (up 22.6 percent) and products such as eggs, butter and salt also cost a lot more in stores than they did a good twelve months ago. There have also been significant price increases for everyday items such as milk, bread, rolls, cheese and quark. Reasons for this include the rise in energy and fuel prices, delays in the supply chains and the Ukraine war.
