Saxony: City of Torgau: State Garden Show was "enormous image gain"

Torgau (dpa/sn) - Six years of preparation, 27 million euros and then flowers, flowers, flowers: With the state garden show, Torgau in North Saxony has been able to show itself from its most beautiful side in recent months. Although fewer visitors came than originally expected, the organizers are very satisfied, the city administration told the German Press Agency shortly before the official end of the show next Sunday (October 9). However, they were shocked and disappointed that there were several fires on the show site: "Investigations into the four fire incidents are still ongoing."

Under the motto "Nature. Man. History." the approximately 24-hectare event site, on which around 70,000 early bloomers and 50,000 summer flowers had been planted, was opened at the end of April in the best weather. Facilities created in the run-up to the show, including playgrounds and skate parks, should continue to make the city attractive - especially for young people and families. The state horticultural show is an "enormous image gain".

The city explained that only five percent of the facilities built for the show should not be preserved. For example, gates, fences or model burial sites would have to be removed from the cityscape.

The city is currently holding talks about the maintenance of the other facilities, including with the local Lebenshilfe. "The financing of the costs incurred will be discussed and discussed in the context of the budget debate, which is due shortly," it said. No final decision has been made about the future of the flower hall, where gardeners and florists have been showing a wide variety of plants over the past few months.

The state garden show in Torgau was the ninth in Saxony. In total, only around 360,000 visitors came instead of the expected 400,000. The next State Horticultural Show is scheduled to take place in Aue-Bad Schlema (Erzgebirge district) in 2026.
