Saxony: classmates attacked by son: investigations against OB

Glauchau (dpa/sn) - An attack on one of his son's classmates could have official consequences for the mayor of Glauchau, Marcus Steinhart (CDU). The Zwickau district office is examining "officially" whether disciplinary proceedings should be initiated in the case, as a spokeswoman said on Monday on request. So far, the authority has not received any official information about the incident. A decision could be made in the next few days. Steinhart will continue to carry out his official business, according to the Glauchau town hall. The authority confirmed a statement by the CDU politician that he had spread on Facebook.

The police are investigating Steinhart, who has been in office since August 1 and previously worked as department head for public safety, order and social affairs in the city administration. He is accused of insult and assault. It's about a physical altercation between him and one of his son's classmates last Tuesday at the Waldenburg European High School. The police were called and took up the case on the spot, it said.

Steinhart confirmed the incident in a Facebook post. "My behavior cannot be explained rationally," he wrote. According to him, two classmates attacked his son for months with "hardly imaginable insults and humiliation". This put a huge mental strain on the boy. When he confronted the main actor and confronted him with his behavior, a physical altercation ensued. He then went to the school management himself to report this, Steinhart wrote.

"I would like to formally apologize for this incident, which I deeply regret," he said. "I acted as a horrified father wanting to protect his son."
