Saxony: commemorating Gorbachev: Saxony arranges mourning flags

Dresden (dpa/sn) - On the occasion of the funeral of the former Soviet President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Mikhail Gorbachev (1931-2022) on Saturday, Saxony is mourning. According to the announcement, the State Chancellery ordered the corresponding flags to be displayed for ministries and other official buildings in the government district on Friday. The state parliament also lowers the flags to half-staff in recognition of Gorbachev's crucial role in German reunification. The politician died in Moscow on Tuesday at the age of 91. In 2010 he received the Dresden Prize, an international peace prize, in the state capital.
