Saxony: Completed clear-cutting in the Heidebogen forest: Investigation

Ottendorf-Okrilla (dpa/sn) - The clear cut in the Heidebogen near Dresden has been completed. Six days after the start of clearing, against which climate activists had protested for a long time, forest workers were only busy removing the last tree trunks on Tuesday. The Görlitz police department is now investigating suspected crimes. This includes, among other things, damage to property, resistance to law enforcement officials and, in one case, dangerous bodily harm. An employee of Sachsenforst fell into a pitfall, which was also prepared with a board of nails, it said.

In the Heidebogen north of Dresden, the company KBO quarries gravel and also has a permit for it. Environmentalists had protested against this for a good year and a half. They occupied the affected area and had built tree houses there. Within two days, the camp was cleared during a large-scale police operation.
