Saxony: Dresden wants to fight illegal spraying with a graffiti concept

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The state capital of Dresden is trying to get a better grip on the problem of illegal spraying with a new graffiti concept. The city administration announced on Monday that more intensive cooperation with the police was planned.

The concept consists of four building blocks: remove, pursue, enlighten and shape. Legal graffiti art should be promoted by providing spray areas, illegal graffiti should be combated more rigorously.

In 2020, the police in Dresden registered 2,142 crimes related to illegal graffiti, the city said. That was 365 cases more than the year before. In 2020, the city alone incurred costs of around 86,000 euros for removing illegal graffiti. The focus is on the bridges on the Elbe and the Outer Neustadt.
