Saxony: First medical students selected according to country doctor quota

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The first medical study places according to the Saxon country doctor quota have been allocated. This means that 40 young women and men are studying human medicine in Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz in the 2022/2023 winter semester, as the Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Thursday. They wanted "with great enthusiasm to make their contribution to securing future medical care in structurally weaker regions of the Free State," said Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping (SPD). She wished her perseverance and success for the training as well as joy in her future work. "Your commitment is our future!"

The new country doctor quota is intended to help secure medical care in regions away from the big cities. Applicants do not need an A-level qualification and undertake to work as a family doctor in a region of Saxony that is underserved or threatened by at least ten years after completing their studies. There were a total of 67 applications for the premiere, the next round will follow from February 2023.
