Saxony: Ministry wants to hand over vaccination centers to the municipalities

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The state vaccination centers could in future be operated by the health centers in Saxony. The Ministry of Health in Dresden announced on Thursday that it was planned to hand them over to the municipalities from January 2023. "Negotiations are currently underway with the municipal level." There is no formal decision yet.

According to the ministry, the Free State would support the districts and urban districts with a flat rate and a total of eight million euros a year for the material costs of setting up and operating municipal vaccination centers. Other services could also be offered there, such as other vaccinations or pre-school examinations. That is "an offer" for the municipal level, there is no obligation to take over.

"Everything is to be vaccinated there in the future: the measles or flu vaccination, depending on what is required," quoted the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" in its report on Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD). Vaccination centers as branch offices of the health centers are "above all very citizen-friendly".

The Free State with its 13 vaccination centers is currently supplementing the range of corona vaccinations. The main players are medical practices, company doctors and hospitals, they cover about 80 percent.
