Saxony: Recommendations for saving energy in day-care centers and schools

Dresden (dpa / sn) - Ventilation and no hot water in the toilet: The Saxon Ministry of Culture and the municipal umbrella organizations have formulated recommendations for saving energy in daycare centers and schools. At the same time, it was made clear that minimum temperatures must not be undercut. Accordingly, the temperature in classrooms should not be less than 20 degrees. A minimum temperature of 21 degrees is specified for group rooms in day-care centers and 17 degrees for gyms.

"Child day care centers and schools are protected according to the gas emergency plan. They are given priority. Schools remain open and no child will have to freeze. That must be the goal in all planning. Blind action rarely leads to the hoped-for success," explained Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU).

"Windows should only be opened for shock ventilation - tilting or continuous ventilation should be avoided," the ministry said. Hot water only has to be made available at washing and showering areas, but only when needed in toilet rooms. In early childhood, hot water must be permanently available for nursing activities.

Since swimming lessons are part of the curriculum in primary school, its implementation must therefore be guaranteed in principle, it said. The lighting in rooms should only be switched on when necessary and switched off again when you leave them. Devices that are not required should remain completely or partially switched off. As few rooms as possible should be used in the facilities.
