Saxony: State library defends itself against disinformation campaign

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon State Library - State and University Library (SLUB) Dresden is defending itself against a disinformation campaign. Since September 1, calls have been made in her name to "donate Russian books to the library for heating purposes," as the institution announced on Saturday. The library therefore filed a criminal complaint for "deliberate false information" and published a clarification online. First came calls and emails, which were also sent by bots, said a SLUB spokeswoman. The Hamburg library had been hit by similar attacks in the past few days.

According to the library, the photo of a forged letter with the SLUB logo, the sender of the library administration and contact of the SLUB general director Katrin Stump, is being distributed on various platforms. This should give the impression that the library created the letter.

Stump was "shocked", also because "several libraries have already been affected by manipulative disinformation in the past few days and the masterminds do not shy away from personal attacks".
