Saxony: The city wants to end the dispute over the mayor with moderators

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The city of Dresden is now using two arbitrators in the dispute over the filling of several mayoral posts. As the administration announced on Thursday, the former Greens federal spokeswoman Gunda Röstel and ex-Federal Minister Thomas de Maizière (CDU) were entrusted with moderating the power poker. The talks should start as soon as possible, and the mayor will then be elected in January. The team of moderators had declared confidentiality about the content of the discussions as an indispensable condition for a successful process, it said.

The election of five of the seven deputies had been postponed several times in the city council since August due to a lack of agreement. In addition to Mayor Dirk Hilbert (FDP), only two deputies are currently in office. For the election of those affected, the law provides for a majority vote in the city council, the Lord Mayor (OB) must declare his agreement. The council can only enforce its will against the mayor with a two-thirds majority.
