Saxony: Warning strike affects local transport in five Saxon cities

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The Verdi union called for a day-long warning strike in local transport in five Saxon cities on Friday. Leipzig, Dresden, Chemnitz, Zwickau and Plauen were affected, Verdi said. The warning strikes are set to begin early in the morning. Passengers have to be prepared for significant bus and train failures. Verdi wants to increase the pressure in the collective bargaining conflict for the public service of the municipalities and the federal government. The warning strikes are to take place at the same time as a global climate strike by the climate movement Fridays for Future.

The Dresden transport company announced that all of its tram and bus lines will be affected. Significant restrictions are also expected in Leipzig. However, one can only estimate the extent to which the bus and tram lines cannot be served once the strike begins. According to the Verkehrsverbund Vogtland (VVO), only the tram lines should be on strike in Plauen. City buses, regional buses, school buses and regional buses in the VVO will drive.

Saxony is one of six federal states in which warning strikes are intended to paralyze local transport. In the federal states, the collective agreement for the public service in local transport applies. Collective bargaining has so far been unsuccessful. The third and probably decisive round of negotiations is scheduled for the end of March.
