Erfurt (dpa/th) - The renewed onset of winter is causing chaos on the road. According to the police, there were 40 accidents on state roads and 10 weather-related accidents on the motorways in Thuringia on Wednesday night due to snow and ice.
On Wednesday, too, people in Thuringia have to be prepared for ice and snow locally. In the morning it will only remain dry in the north of Thuringia, otherwise a light snowfall is to be expected, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Wednesday morning. In the course of the morning, snowfalls can also be expected from the south-west. According to the DWD, a few centimeters of fresh snow should fall in the mountains, while slush and corresponding smoothness can be expected at lower altitudes. The maximum temperatures are between one and three degrees, in the mountains between minus two and plus two degrees.
Snowfall down to the lower elevations is also expected on Thursday night. According to the DWD, there should be a rapid transition to rain up to the ridges in the morning. A few centimeters of fresh snow are only expected in the mountains.
