Thuringia: Jewish-Israeli culture days start with a concert

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Jewish-Israeli Culture Days in Thuringia begin on Wednesday evening with a concert by the singer Noa, who is often referred to as the "Voice of Peace". The Yemeni-Israeli artist, who grew up in the USA, not only performs on the world's major music stages, as the organizers said. The musician, whose real name is Achinoam Nini, is also actively committed to peace and reconciliation between Jews and Palestinians. As a UN ambassador, she supports the organization in its fight against hunger in the world.

At the opening concert of the annual festival in Erfurt, the Ambassador of the State of Israel Ron Prosor and Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) are to speak greetings. According to Ramelow in advance, Prosor's participation is a strong unifying sign in the 75th year of the founding of the State of Israel. "We are celebrating the culture days as a joint festival and are thus sending a clear signal against anti-Semitism."

The festival includes more than 50 readings, concerts, discussion rounds and other formats at various Thuringian locations. It ends on March 23rd.
