Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Erfurt station mission has moved into its new premises in the main station. Train station manager Christine Kromke handed over the new container building on platform 3/8 to the association on Friday, Deutsche Bahn announced.
The rooms would facilitate the "selfless and responsible work" of the volunteers and serve as a place of retreat for travelers and those in need, according to Kromke. "The pavilion will greatly advance our work with the people at the train station," said Mission Chairman Hubertus Schönemann. However, volunteers should continue to be mobile in the station.
The Erfurt Train Station Mission has existed since 2017, but has not had its own premises up until now. The container construction had been worked on for a total of seven months. According to Deutsche Bahn on Friday, the costs were half a million euros, of which the railways paid 335,000 euros. The station mission financed the remaining 165,000 euros through donations.
Railway station missions have existed in Germany for over 125 years. They are operated by the Evangelical and the Catholic Church.
