Thuringia: FDP criticizes procedures in the budget committee

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The parliamentary group of the FDP has criticized the procedure in the budget committee and asked for the state parliament decision on the 2023 budget to be postponed. She described it as a snub that 113 new amendments were announced to MEPs at a special session of the budget committee on Tuesday, but not handed over to them. The red-red-green government coalition and the opposition CDU parliamentary group had agreed on Monday evening to compromise in the budget dispute that had been going on for weeks. They result in a number of new amendments to the government bill.

"The right of every member of parliament to familiarize himself with the law and to be able to decide on the most important law of the year on this basis is being trampled on," said FDP group spokesman Thomas Kemmerich. According to the FDP, the parliamentary budget decision should not be made until the beginning of 2023.

The minority coalition of Left, SPD and Greens does not have a majority in the state parliament and is dependent on the votes of the opposition - usually the CDU. The four factions had agreed on the basics of the budget. The Council of Elders in the state parliament wants to decide on Tuesday afternoon whether it can be discussed as planned this Thursday and decided on Friday. The head of the state parliament, Jörg Hopfe, had expressed legal concerns because the MPs only had little time to submit their own motions.
