Thuringia: Further process for football fan group "Jungsturm"

Gera (dpa/th) - Another trial against suspected members of the "Jungsturm" football fan group begins on Tuesday (9:00 a.m.) in the Gera district court. According to the district court, the public prosecutor's office in the proceedings charged eight defendants with being involved in an attack on fans of FC Carl Zeiss Jena. They are said to have attacked Jena fans at the train station in Saalfeld in December 2018 and stolen their scarves, hats and jackets. According to the court, the accused are between 19 and 28 years old. They have to answer for charges of communal robbery, dangerous bodily harm and breach of the peace.

The "Jungsturm" is a fan group from the area of FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, in which, according to earlier findings of the investigators, right-wing extremists had also gathered. In the course of a first trial against members of this group, the Gera district court classified the "Jungsturm" as a criminal organization in early 2021. Jena fans are considered more left-wing.
