Thuringia: Gotha is given a Kiddusch set

Gotha (dpa/th) - Jewish culture in Thuringia: Gotha was given a kiddush set by Eisenach. The set consists, among other things, of a Kiddush cup, which is used at the beginning of Shabbat for the blessing, a bowl for the traditional Shabbat yeast braid, two candlesticks with candles and a bottle of kosher Kiddush wine. On September 16, it is to be used as part of the Achava Festival in the Augustinian monastery in Gotha - at the first Jewish service in the city for more than 80 years. The last Jewish service was probably held in Gotha in 1938. This has already been the case in Eisenach for the past four years as part of the Achava Festival.

The public service in cooperation with the Protestant parish of Gotha is intended to bring together people of Jewish, Christian and Muslim faith in order to bring a piece of Jewish culture and spirituality back to their city. In the future, the Kiddush set will also be used by Pastor Angela Fuhrmann for religious education work with schoolchildren to explain the meaning of Shabbat.

The Jewish Achava Festival Thuringia will take place from September 10th with more than 50 events. This includes large concerts, cooking courses, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, readings and eyewitness talks throughout Thuringia. Gotha is a new event location this year. The festival runs until September 25th.
