Thuringia: High property damage in a barn fire in Otterstedt

Otterstedt (dpa/th) - A fire in a barn in Otterstedt (Kyffhäuserkreis) caused high property damage on Thursday morning. The damage to the building and the hay bales in it is currently estimated at around 30,000 euros, said the Nordhausen State Police Inspectorate. When the fire brigade and police arrived around 5 a.m. in the morning, the barn was already completely on fire. Residents were asked to keep their windows and doors closed because of the heavy smoke. The fire brigade decided to let the barn burn down in a controlled manner because it was no longer possible to extinguish it, it said. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
