Steinach (dpa/th) - A kangaroo seems to have caused a traffic accident between Steinach and Blechhammer (Sonneberg) on Monday. A driver said he braked suddenly because of a kangaroo crossing the road, police said at noon. The car behind him was unable to brake in time, resulting in a rear-end collision.
Both vehicles were no longer drivable and had to be towed away. The occupants were only slightly injured. According to a police officer, the kangaroo jumped past the scene of the accident while the accident was being recorded.
According to initial investigations, the kangaroo lives in Steinach with a private individual. According to the police, the circumstances of the escape or further information about the owner of the animal are unclear. It could also be the kangaroo from the zoo in Sonneberg, which escapes from time to time and is out and about outside the zoo.
