Thuringia: Legal clerkship for prospective lawyers soon to be part-time

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In the future, prospective lawyers will also be able to complete their legal clerkship in Thuringia part-time. "This is an important step so that education and family are compatible," said Thuringia's Justice Minister Doreen Denstädt (Greens) on Tuesday in Erfurt. It is important to make this training possible for young parents and caring relatives.

More than a year ago, the cabinet gave the go-ahead for prospective lawyers to work part-time. The then Justice Minister Dirk Adams (Greens) described this as an important step in the modernization of legal education. A corresponding authorization to issue ordinances in the Thuringian Lawyers Training Act was passed in December last year.

The project is now being implemented - from the hiring date of May 2023. According to the ministry, the length of service for part-time trainees will be reduced by 20 percent. However, this extends the preparatory service by six months "so that the training content is not neglected".
