Thuringia: Less beer exported from Thuringia

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Beer sales in Thuringia fell last year, also as a result of fewer exports. A total of 2.9 million hectoliters of barley juice were sold by the Thuringian breweries and beer warehouses, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Erfurt. That was 40,000 hectoliters or 1.4 percent less than in 2021. This continued the decline in beer sales that had been going on for years.

According to the figures, the development in the past year was not so strongly influenced by the fact that less beer is drunk in Germany. Domestically, the minus was 0.6 percent to almost 2.3 million hectoliters. Deliveries abroad fell significantly more. Exports fell by 4.0 percent to 655,000 hectoliters. Just over a fifth (22.5 percent) of the beer sold by Thuringian breweries and beer warehouses was delivered abroad. Exports have had an upward trend in recent years.

Beer mixes with lemonade, cola or fruit juices were also less in demand. Their sales fell by 10.8 percent to 128,000 hectoliters. Non-alcoholic beers and malt beverages were not taken into account in the figures from the State Office.
