Thuringia: Researchers: Many refugees want to stay in Thuringia

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to the findings of Erfurt researchers, many of the Ukrainian refugees living in Thuringia plan to stay for a long time. "All signs indicate that we are not talking about a short-term challenge here, but rather a long-term one," said Jörg Fischer, head of the Institute for Municipal Planning and Development, on Friday in Erfurt. In a recent survey by the institute, around 40 percent of those questioned said they planned to live in the country in the long term. Fischer admitted that the institute's survey was not representative. However, there is still a clear trend.

The institute has existed since 2014. According to its own statements, it was founded by Thuringian municipalities, the Ministry of Social Affairs and scientists and is linked to the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences through cooperation.
