Thuringia: Search for 39-year-olds has a surprising outcome

Lauscha (dpa/th) - A large-scale operation by the police, fire brigade, mountain rescue service and technical aid organization in Lauscha (Sonneberg district) took a surprising turn on Saturday. A woman reported her partner missing in the morning, the police said on Sunday. Danger to life and limb could not be ruled out, so an extensive search was started. In addition to around 50 emergency services and a tracking dog, drones and a police helicopter were also used to search the surrounding forests. Hours later, however, it turned out that the 39-year-old had already come home in the morning and had gone to sleep.

"If this information had been communicated to the emergency services earlier, many hours of intensive searching could have been saved," the police said in a statement. "All in all, however, the joy that the missing person was found safely outweighed it."
