Altenburg/Gera (dpa/th) - The Altenburg-Gera theater wants to start the 2022/23 season with big plays. The focus will be on 20 new productions, 7 premieres, concerts in a wide variety of formats for all age groups and the revival of large-scale plays such as "The Passenger" by Mieczysław Weinberg, "The Tales of Hoffmann" by Jacques Offenbach and the ballet "Giselle" by Adolphe Adam. In total, the five-genre theater has planned 18 premieres in Altenburg and 20 premieres in Gera. It is Thuringia's only five-section theater and at the same time the home of the Thuringian State Ballet.

The house in Gera already started its new season on Friday with a gala evening. On Sunday evening, the audience in the Altenburg theater tent will be welcomed by the Altenburg Gera Philharmonic Orchestra, the Thuringian State Ballet, the Opera Choir and the Philharmonic Choir with excerpts from upcoming premieres and revivals. These include samples from the music theater productions "Dantons Tod", "Hänsel und Gretel" and "Anything Goes", the ballets "Synergies" and "Corpus" and the plays "Stützen der Gesellschaft" and "Dinner for One - How it all began ".
