Gera (dpa/th) - Young people in Gera are said to have shot themselves and others with New Year's firecrackers and fireworks, thereby triggering a police operation. A nine-year-old girl was injured by a New Year's Eve firecracker, so an ambulance was called for medical care, the police said on Friday. The officials determined the identity of the young people and issued place references.
Several passers-by dialed the emergency call on Thursday evening and reported that the young people were said to have thrown pyrotechnics at each other, but also at passers-by and at the trams. The police moved in with a patrol and the Thuringian riot police. According to current knowledge, there was no damage to vehicles or buildings. The police are looking for witnesses.
