Conversion for more speed: In the Tesla plant in Grünheide, the assembly lines are at a standstill

According to a report, production in the Brandenburg Gigafactory will be suspended for two weeks. Since the pace of work is only half as high as planned, Tesla wants to change the processes. That's why the production lines in Shanghai are also standing still.

From the second half of July, production in the Brandenburg Tesla factory should be significantly faster. In order to adjust the processes for this, production was suspended for two weeks at the beginning of the month, as reported by “Teslamag”. The goal therefore: only 30 seconds should be necessary per station; so far 90 seconds are planned, but only 180 seconds have been achieved.

According to the report, the final inspection should be distributed among several areas in order to avoid the reworking that was previously necessary on actually finished models. "If particularly unsuccessful specimens arrive on the line, they should be removed from the ongoing process," reports the portal. In addition, after the production break, Tesla could start manufacturing drives that have so far been supplied from China.

In May, the employees in Grünheide only managed 86 Model Y performances per day, as "Teslamag" reported, citing two "well-informed" sources. The finished new cars would also have to be intensively revised. At the end of June, Tesla then reported 1,000 new cars produced in one week. After completion of the electric car manufacturer's "most modern, most sustainable and most efficient" factory, the Americans want to produce "hundreds of thousands of Model Y and millions of battery cells" there, according to the company's website. Tesla boss Elon Musk originally wanted to roll off the assembly line in Brandenburg up to 10,000 cars a week.

According to information from the Reuters news agency, the Tesla factory in Shanghai should also pause for two weeks at the beginning of the month in order to increase its speed. Production there was also interrupted due to corona. In a recently published interview excerpt, Musk described the plants in Grünheide and Texas as "gigantic money incinerators".

Tesla is currently having to recall the Model Y because of a software malfunction. The Federal Motor Transport Authority had found a fault in the car's emergency call system. In the US, Tesla has had to initiate a number of recalls in recent months.
