Every day in the Community of Madrid more than 5 million travelers use public transport.
By type of means of transport: 2.1 million use the Metro, more than 864,000 use intercity buses, 1.4 million use EMT buses and just over 560,000 passengers use the Cercanías network.
According to data from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Community of Madrid increased the sale of public transport tickets by 20.7% last January compared to the same period in 2022.
The reduction in rates caused more than 1.7 million new recharges of monthly passes and multi-trip cards since the beginning of the year.
It should also be noted that the sales of the C2 season ticket increased well above the rest of the tickets as a result of the unification of the rates from this zone to zone B3. In addition, the growth of the Transport Pass in zone A, which exceeds sales in 2022 by 53.66%; zone B1 with more than 91,000 operations and in zone B2 where the influx of users grew by 33%.
As of February 1, the 60% reduction in the price of monthly public transport passes is applied for the entire year 2023. In this case, the Community of Madrid has extended this discount to 60% instead of the 50% requested from government.
With these new rates, the 30-day Youth Pass, which can be used by those under 26 years of age, is reduced to 8 euros; the Normal A now costs 21.80 euros; B1 €25.4; B2 28.8 euros, and the unified zone B3-C1/C2 drops to 32.8 euros.
In addition, in all the titles there are discounts for large families in the general category, which have an additional reduction of 20%, and in the special category, with 50%; in the case of people with a disability of more than 65% it reaches 20%.
Another novelty for the 2023 financial year is the 50% decrease in multi-trip tickets compared to their original amount.
With the new discount, users who use the Metro in zone A, EMT and Light Metros will see their price reduced from 8.10 to 6.10 euros. And travelers who change at the EMT or have a combined ticket for the underground will pay 9.10 euros compared to the previous 12.80 euros.
The Multi card for public transport lasts for ten years. It can contain up to three types of non-personal tickets from the public transport service fare system: single and ten-trip Metro and Light Rail tickets, ten trips for urban and intercity and tourist buses.
This allows different people to use the same card, pay for the trip to companions who share the same route and contain transport tickets for different routes than usual.
With the free transport pass for people over 65 years of age, purchases also increased by 75% last January, exceeding 657,191 users.
In January, 19,243 new personal cards for users with profiles of these ages were issued and more than 1.2 million trips have been made on all public transport in the region.
In order to use the free title, it is necessary that they have finished loading the subscription for thirty days, so these users will be gradually incorporated into the use of the free title.
