Peter Thiel leaves the board of parent company Meta Facebook

Monday's announcement by the company stated that Thiel would remain on board until Meta's next shareholder meeting in December, when he will not be standing for reelection.

Thiel joined Facebook's board of directors in 2005, one year after its founding and seven years before it made its debut on Wall Street. Thiel's conservative politics have made him a more polarizing figure among Facebook's directors.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that Peter is a truly original thinker and can bring you the most difficult problems to get innovative solutions. "He has been on our board almost 20 years and we knew that he would eventually leave.

Meta Platforms Inc. didn't say what Thiel would do once his time as director is up. Bloomberg and The New York Times reported that Thiel plans to continue his work as a director.

Thiel representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Thiel stated that it was a privilege to have worked with one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our age. Mark Zuckerberg's intelligence and energy are extraordinary.
