Social Security Aid of 115 euros per dependent child: requirements and how to apply for foster care

Among the main novelties of the Minimum Vital Income Law, published in the BOE on December 21, the new aid supplement for dependent children stands out. The benefit is officially known as child aid and, after the increase in the IMV approved by the Government, in 2023 it offers amounts of up to 115 euros per child to low-income families.

The monthly supplement of aid for children was presented with different amounts (50, 70 and 100 euros) depending on the number of minors members of the cohabitation unit, and depending on the age reached on January 1 of the corresponding exercise. With the revaluation, the amounts of the benefit remain in 2023 as follows:

Those cohabitation units that include minors among their members and that meet all the necessary requirements to receive the Minimum Vital Income are entitled to this supplement of parenting income; that is, those who already receive the IMV and those who have applied for it and are in process. Those who receive the old benefit for dependent children can also receive the aid.

In addition, beneficiaries of the family protection benefit who meet the requirements established by Social Security can receive this aid: "they are the beneficiaries of the economic allowance for a dependent child or minor without disability or with a disability of less than 33%, whose cohabitation unit is constituted exclusively by the members that appear in the file of the benefit for dependent children, provided that they meet the necessary conditions for access to the child aid supplement, and that the amount is equal to or greater than the one they had been receiving, having to opt for one of the two benefits".

The maximum income is 300% of the income guaranteed by the Minimum Vital Income, that is, families with income three times less than the minimum aid of the Minimum Vital Income. Neither can you exceed 150% of the IMV equity limits.

On paper, it is not necessary to submit any application to receive the supplement to the benefit. However, if the requirements are not met, ex officio recognition can be requested through the same channels through which the IMV is processed:

Likewise, you can check if you are entitled to this new supplement using the Minimum Vital Income Simulator 2023 that is used to easily find out if you are entitled to receive the IMV.
