After a dramatic search: girls will soon be allowed to return from Paraguay

The German couple, who went into hiding in Paraguay with their children from previous relationships, turned themselves in to the police. The ten and eleven-year-olds are handed over to the other parents. Preparations are now underway for the girls to leave the country, for whom there was previously a ban.

In the case of child abduction in Paraguay, a court cleared the way for the two girls to return to Germany. The family court in the capital, Asunción, lifted travel bans against the German children. On request, the lawyer Stephan Schultheiss confirmed a corresponding report by the Paraguayan newspaper "ABC Color". According to him, the travel bans were issued during the search for the girls.

The decision that the children can be returned to Germany must first be communicated to the South American country's migration authorities on Monday. After that, they would fly to Germany as soon as possible, said Schultheiss from Paraguay.

On Thursday (local time), the month-long search for the ten and eleven-year-old girls came to an end. The German emigrant couple wanted for child abduction turned themselves in to the police after negotiations with Schultheiss and another lawyer. The Paraguayan police published pictures of the refugees with officials and the lawyer. As the police chief responsible for kidnapping cases, Nimio Cardozo, said in Asuncion, the 10 and 11-year-old girls are "healthy and safe" and have been handed over to their respective other parents - the 10-year-old to her mother, who lives in Germany, and the 11-year-old to her father.

The emigrant couple - the father of one girl and the mother of the other girl - are married to each other in their second marriage and emigrated to Paraguay with their two children in November last year without the consent of their respective ex-partners. According to the Paraguayan public prosecutor's office, the couple had an arrest warrant issued by the international police agency Interpol.
