Attack on vans: robbers stole money for the Bundesbank

Two perpetrators stole several million euros in an apparently long-planned raid on a money transporter in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Now further details are known: The money was therefore on the way to a branch of the Bundesbank.

In the spectacular robbery of a money transporter on a motorway exit in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, two perpetrators stole several million euros on Thursday, which were on the way from Greifswald to a branch of the Bundesbank in Neubrandenburg. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the police headquarters in Neubrandenburg. Shots were also fired during the robbery at a fake construction site. She did not give any details "for reasons of investigation tactics".

The search for the perpetrators continues. According to the police's previous findings, they acted professionally and prepared the robbery in the long term. In the morning hours, they wedged the money transporter in with two cars from the front and rear and brought it to a standstill in a mock construction site that they had apparently set up days earlier, for which they used several long concrete sleepers.

They blocked a lateral escape route for the money transporter. According to the police, the concrete blocks had been removed by the road maintenance department in the meantime. Since they were there again at the time of the crime, the perpetrators must have visited the later crime scene again to rebuild the fake construction site, the police said.

In the mock construction site, the perpetrators robbed the money transporter and set it and one of their murder vehicles on fire. Her second car was found burnt out in a wooded area ten kilometers away a few hours later. Broken and burnt-out cash boxes were also found there. The investigators assume that the perpetrators continued the escape with another vehicle.

According to the police, the search was continued with further crime scene work, trace analysis and questioning of witnesses. A number of tips from the population had already been received, but a crucial tip had not yet been included, the police said.
