Berlin's "Berghain" is slipping: Cologne's club is one of the hippest in the world

The Berlin club "Berghain" is an attraction in the capital. According to a specialist magazine, however, it is no longer one of the ten hippest trendy shops. Another German club has established itself in the top 10. The number one in the world can be found on a Spanish holiday island.

The Cologne club "Bootshaus" has once again asserted itself in the top group in a ranking of the 100 best clubs in the world. As in the previous year, it ended up in fifth place in the top 100 clubs, as reported by "DJ Mag".

"The club became famous above all for its top-class line-ups and the wild audience, which is strongly reminiscent of rock concerts," explained Niclas Aigner, Managing Director of "Bootshaus". "Almost every great artist has played here."

In the latest vote by the British trade magazine, in which hundreds of thousands of ravers take part every year, Cologne also won the inner-German duel again: Berlin's "Berghain" only came in twelfth place (minus 6). In 2022 only four German clubs are among the top 100 - there are two more in Berlin: the "Watergate" (35th place, up 1) and the "Tresor" (50th place, up 10). "Hï Ibiza is the number 1 club in the world," said DJ Mag. After two years on the podium, the Spanish club has made it to the top for the first time.

The country with the most clubs in the "DJ Mag" top 100 is the United States: "The USA reclaims the title of number 1 club country from the United Kingdom," it said - with a total of 16 clubs ( plus 3). In 2021, Great Britain led with a total of 14 clubs (12 in England and 2 in Scotland).

While the international club voting was often published in the spring before Corona, this did not happen until August last year and this time at the end of June. In many countries around the world, club life lay idle for months during the pandemic.
